Opinions about the language border are very diverse: “Solution? There is simply no money” and “A club like Standard will always have the possibilities” – Football News

Will Standard still be okay? The Belgian traditional club fought against relegation this season and is facing a huge mountain of debt. Philippe Albert fears the worst. Although there are also voices that sound cautiously positive.

Standard finished the regular competition in a very poor tenth place. Particularly striking: The Rouches fought against relegation until a few match days before the end. In the end, they were left with just five points on the proverbial red line.

The question that arises is clear: how will Standard profile itself next season? 777 Partners still owns the club – although Bruno Venanzi claims he has the right to take over Standard again – but investments do not seem to be coming. On the contrary: the owners are facing an avalanche of lawsuits.

“The future looks far from bright for Standard,” laments Philippe Albert LaTribune. “It is a very difficult situation. Belgium needs a club like Standard. The only solution is to get the finances in order, but there is no money.”

The 41-time Belgian international and analyst with our French-speaking compatriots fears that Standard could go under. “Standard is a big club, but that does not mean that they are protected against everything. There comes a time when you can no longer move forward without resources. Money is needed to keep a club running.”

Is Standard on the verge of bankruptcy?

“I don’t immediately believe in Standard’s bankruptcy,” Florent Stocker is more positive RTBF. “It is difficult to make an order without insight into the accounting. But if bankruptcy were to threaten one day, I am convinced that a club like Standard will have sufficient options to survive.”

The sports lawyer also points to the opinion of the Licensing Committee. “I trust the people who have actually seen the file. The Licensing Committee recently decided that the future of Standard is assured until at least June 30, 2025.”
