Apple has just announced a new event that will take place on May 7. Although Apple has not officially released any details about what will be revealed during the event, we expect the focus will be on the introduction of new iPads.
The announcement of the event appeared on Apple’s social media channels on Wednesday. “Pencil us in for May 7“ CEO Tim Cook wrote in the announcement, accompanied by an image of an Apple Pencil. The official slogan of the event is “Let loose“.
New iPads
There were previously rumors about the arrival of new iPads in May, and this announcement seems to confirm those rumors. Apple did not launch a new iPad in 2023, which has resulted in declining sales. Global sales of iPhones are also showing a downward trend, which is why Apple hopes that these new iPads will provide a necessary boost. Currently, iPads account for about 6 percent of Apple’s total sales.
iPad Pro with OLED screen and M3 chip
The new iPad Pro will be the seventh generation, after the announcement of the most recent model in October 2022. It will be the first model with an OLED screen. The largest model would also be available in a 13-inch variant.
In addition, the new iPad Pro also gets a faster chipset thanks to the updated M3 chip. As Apple’s announcement suggests, we can also expect new accessories during the event, such as the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil.
iPad Air with 12.9-inch screen
The most recent model of the iPad Air, the fifth generation, dates from more than two years ago. The sixth generation is expected to be the first iPad Air with a 12.9-inch screen. The current iPad Air has a screen diagonal of 10.9 inches.
