Wilson (WS 12), who snookered a 7-1 lead in an impressive first session, saw Jones (WS 44) twice reduce his deficit to four frames in the second session. But in the final frame, the 32-year-old from Kettering was able to end the second session with an 11-6 lead thanks to a snooker and a clearance.

In the third session both players won four frames. Jones made breaks of 64, 59, 90 and 73. Wilson managed breaks of 50, 83 and 87, starting the fourth and final session with a 15-10 lead. ‘The Warrior’ won the first frame, after which Jones, nicknamed ‘The Silent Assassin’, took the next frame with a 105 break. Frame 28 ended at 73-73 after which a re-spot black had to decide the match. Wilson potted the black ball over three cushions, bringing him within one frame of victory, but the 30-year-old Welshman won frame 29 with a 67 break.

After twelve red and the subsequent black ball, good for a 96 break, Jones also won frame 30. With a win in frame 31 he was able to reduce his deficit to three frames. In frame 32 Wilson had a chance to win which he capitalized on with a 42 break.

Wilson will be left with 583,000 euros from the victory. There is 233,000 euros reserved for Jones.
