Jan Vertonghen, for example, has still not decided whether he will continue as a professional footballer. We’ll have to wait and see what impact his recent injury will have on that decision. And Kasper Schmeichel’s future also looks uncertain at the moment.
The Danish international was snapped up at the end of the summer mercato. Although Anderlecht already had a suitable goalkeeper in Maxime Dupé, he was immediately given the opportunity as number one. And after several inconsistent months, Schmeichel has become one of the pillars in coach Brian Riemer’s team in recent weeks.
Doubling salary
Nevertheless, it is far from certain that he will stay. According to La Dernière Heure, the club wants to continue with Schmeichel. And an extension of his contract would not do him any harm financially. The Dane could earn at least 500,000 euros per year, doubling his current salary. However, Schmeichel will hold off for the time being and may continue to do so until the end of the European Championship. That is why Anderlecht is already exploring alternative options, such as Daniel Peretz, third goalkeeper at Bayern Munich.
