There are too many unlucky Belgians this season, we can agree on that. Wout van Aert (in the photo with Sander De Pestel) is certainly one of them, as is Steff Cras.
Both compatriots were victims of a serious fall. Wout van Aert in Across Flanders, Steff Cras in the Tour of the Basque Country. The consequences were certainly not minor. A broken collarbone and several broken ribs for Van Aert. A collapsed lung and broken vertebrae for Steff Cras.
In the meantime, they are both back on their bikes and working on their comeback. They also do that in each other’s company. They set out together for a training trip of more than 120 kilometers. This can be seen on the Strava accounts of both riders. It turns out that they can both get away with playful statements.
VAN AERT AND CRAS KEEP IT FUN
“Both have a Cras on the bodywork,” says Wout van Aert, a wonderful reference to the name of his training buddy. But the Belgian of TotalEnergies is not inferior to that of Visma-Lease a Bike. “Herental lung department on tours”, is how Steff Cras describes the outing of the two compatriots.
Cras also had to deal with an inconvenience. “You can’t get in without a house key,” he now also knows. It is just a footnote in the comparison with the pain the riders had to endure after their crash. It’s certainly good to see that things are going in the right direction for the two of them.
VAN AERT AND CRAS WORKING ON COMEBACK
A photo of the two of them during their bike ride is also circulating on social media. Now we have to wait and see in which matches they will make their comeback.
