Different scenarios are thrown in the trash almost every week and that makes the battle for the title in the Jupiler Pro League extremely interesting. With Anderlecht, Club Brugge and Union, it is the three remaining pretenders’ turn today, rivalry will cost Club its head and will there be a remontada of a Brussels team?

Tradition club scrambles right after uppercut

Union seemed unbeatable for a long time this season, but showed themselves to be very vulnerable at the beginning of these Play-Offs. Blessin’s team lost no fewer than four times in a row, but remained in the title race thanks to a double victory against Antwerp.

Tonight the Unionists will once again clash with their neighbors from Anderlecht. The Purple & White are currently in the lead, but are showing themselves to be vulnerable again… when away. Riemer’s team is also struggling with a lot of injuries, but is eager to take a definitive step towards a 35th national title.

If the record champion manages to win tonight in the Dudenpark, Union’s title dream seems to come to an end, provided that a victory for Blessin and co can possibly take a decisive step towards the championship ball.

Rivalry or total collapse?

In the other confrontation, Antwerp and Club Brugge will fight each other in the early afternoon at Jan Breydel. The Great Old only took one win in this play-off competition, but ‘saving’ themselves for the cup final is absolutely not an option for Mark Van Bommel and his crew.

For many Red and White supporters, Club is seen as one of the great rivals and an (ignominious) defeat would definitely not be well received at the Bosuil. The question is whether Antwerp can recover after a pitch-black series.

Yesterday we also received the news that Mark van Bommel is leaving at the end of this season. Club itself returned from Fiorentina with a defeat, but is keeping the options alive for a prestigious European final. The main question for Blauw-Zwart is what they are physically capable of after an extremely busy programme. Whoever wins today will head into the last three matchdays with enormous title fever.
