Vincent Mannaert will retire from Club Brugge on July 1. He is aiming for a new challenge in the football world.

In November, Vincent Mannaert announced that he would retire from Club Brugge after this season. The club was already working on his succession and now that Mannaert has also sold his shares, his bond with Blauwzwart has completely disappeared.

On July 1, Mannaert will leave Club Brugge behind, but it is his intention to remain active in football. The great fear at Club was that he would join another top Belgian club, but that seems unfounded.

With his son Lucas, chairman Bart Verhaeghe also has a replacement ready for Mannaert on the club’s board, after the sale of the shares.

Not a Belgian club

“In the constructive conversations I had with Bart Verhaeghe about this, it turned out that we were both convinced that this was the best solution,” Mannaert told Het Nieuwsblad.

“I am not tired of football and want to develop a further career, although it will most likely not be at a Belgian club. With a view to that career, it is not appropriate to still be a director/shareholder of a club,” he explains.
