A bit of a scare during Racing Genk – Club Brugge. On the hour mark, Tolu Arokodare suddenly became unwell – the striker even had to hold opponent Brandon Mechele to stay upright. The Nigerian had to be substituted, but remained conscious.
Perhaps a collision with Club goalkeeper Nordin Jackers a few minutes earlier was the cause of Tolu Arokodare’s malaise. The Nigerian headed at high speed onto the keeper’s head.
A little later Tolu became unwell. Fortunately, opponent Brandon Mechele was nearby to keep the Nigerian straight – a very nice gesture of sportsmanship.
“It was a very strange moment,” Mechele looked back afterwards.
“At first I thought he grabbed me and then walked deep, but he hung on to me for a very long time. I tried to put him down gently, because it didn’t look good.
“Would it be something bad? I didn’t think about that at the time. I tried to stay calm, because with such a colossus it wasn’t easy. I’m glad everything is okay with him.”

After his forced substitution, Tolu was able to take a seat on the Racing Genk bench. Trainer Wouter Vrancken: “He also suffered a similar blow against Ghent. Now he felt himself turning away. We’ll have to wait and see in the coming days.”
