Eddy Snelders has been out of the picture as a sports reporter for several months after being accused of sexual offences. Although new facts now seem to have emerged.
Eddy Snelders is linked to additional sexual offences, Het Nieuwsblad writes today. According to the newspaper, in 2016 he allegedly took nude images of unsuspecting visitors with his mobile phone in a fitting room in the Brasschaat swimming pool.
According to sources, it concerns two videos. One with a woman on it, another with a minor. It concerns a child of barely 10 years old. Snelders was confronted with the videos by investigators, but allegedly denied that he knowingly filmed a minor.
Previous conviction
According to well-placed sources, the newspaper also learned that Snelders was already convicted of public indecency 46 years ago, when he was barely 18 years old. He received a suspended sentence for this.
“My client has known the facts of voyeurism from the beginning,” lawyer Sanne De Clerck responds in the newspaper. “He strongly denies having specifically or deliberately targeted minors.”
“The research doesn’t show that either. My client did not know in advance who would be filmed in the changing room. Mr Snelders is nevertheless fully aware of the seriousness of the facts and is intensively engaged in therapy in the context of recovery.”
Snelders’ lawyer did not want to comment on the previous conviction.
