It must not have been a very good spring for Patrick Lefevere. To make matters worse, Remco Evenepoel also crashed in The Tour of the Basque Country.

Situation Evenepoel

But his planned program does not seem to be in jeopardy. “I think Remco’s recovery is going quite well. I saw him last Thursday when he came to say hello. He even had cake for the staff and was happy with the way things were going. His next race is the Dauphiné, there will be no changes until then. We don’t like changes.”

Incoming transfers?

So said Lefevere at GCN, where he also responded to the question whether he wanted to strengthen the team. “We also just need healthy riders. It is difficult because we are limited to a certain budget and we have already invested a lot in recent years in guys like Remco, Mikel Landa and others.”

“But of course we will look at what is on the market and see what we can do. It is still early to talk about this, but the riders’ managers are already making themselves heard and nowadays the riders also sign quite quickly. We will see.”

Situation Asgreen

On the outgoing side, we can expect the departure of Julian Alaphilippe and Kasper Asgreen at Soudal Quick-Step, although he surprised by stating that the Frenchman might remain on board after all. That may also be the case for the Dane.

“It all depends on their requirements. If they are reasonable we can talk. But neither of them have had the best start to the season. Last year, Kasper (Asgreen, ed.) managed to save his season with a stage in the Tour. I’m not saying yes yet and I’m not saying no yet. We still have to talk, but we will certainly not be the only team on the market.”
