RSC Anderlecht gets an excellent opportunity this week to further expand its lead in the rankings. After all, the Purple & White faces a diptych against Cercle Brugge, which it has always managed to win so far. The home match will be played first on Wednesday.

RSCA has had a mixed performance in the POs so far. Although they achieved important home victories against Antwerp and Union, the field play was not always convincing. On the road, the Purple & White failed again with two weak games and defeats at Club Brugge and KRC Genk.

Debast back from the party

Nevertheless, Anderlecht remains in the lead for the time being. But the gap between the pursuers is minimal. And so an appropriate statement must be made against Cercle. In the regular competition, the record champion already managed to win both of his matches against Groen-Zwart.

For Wednesday evening’s home match, coach Brian Riemer will have an important weapon. Zeno Debast is now eligible to play again. He will immediately start back in the starting line-up. The well-known foursome is expected at the back, with, in addition to Debast, also Killian Sardella, Jan Vertoghen and Ludwig Augustinsson.

No Hazard and Verschaeren

Higher on the field, Riemer will have to figure things out. As we know, Thorgan Hazard’s season is already over, while Yari Verschaeren is not yet sufficiently fit. In addition, the Danish coach indicated that it is still too early for Francis Amuzu to start two matches in a row in the starting eleven.

The general expectation is that Mario Stroeykens will act in a higher role. This will probably make the midfield a little more defensive with Mats Rits, Thomas Delaney and Théo Leoni. Unless Riemer conjures up a surprise like Nilson Angulo.

The possible starting eleven:

Schmeichel; Sardella, Debast, Vertonghen, Augustinsson; Leoni, Rits, Delaney; Dreyer, Dolberg, Stroeykens
