“It will be virtually impossible,” said yesterday about the chances that Bayern Munich would appoint Xabi Alonso as their new coach. The Spaniard prefers to stay at Bayer Leverkusen. According to BILD, the Rekordmeister already has a new plan.

And that would be a very striking plan, because Bayern would focus on an iconic French duo. After all, Zinedine Zidane would be on the list together with Franck Ribéry.

Ribéry had great success at Bayern and would then become assistant to one of the greatest French football players of all time. Zidane has taken a sabbatical since Real Madrid, but is now said to be ready to return to head coaching duties in European football.

This would mean it would have two compatriots, one of whom has experience as a trainer at the international top and one who knows the club well. Thomas Tuchel has already announced that he will leave the club after the season.

Uli Hoeness, honorary chairman and member of the supervisory board, announced earlier in the day that the chance of Alonso’s arrival is extremely small.

“Alonso is more inclined to stay at Bayer Leverkusen given their current successes as he would not want to leave them behind. If he had had, say, two or three more years of success, it would probably be easier to bring him to Bayern.”
