A lot of information has already been filled in in a simplified tax letter. That should make life easier, but there is a risk involved. There is a good chance that it contains errors. “Especially if you have children younger than three years old,” it was noted VTM .

Vanessa Hermsen from Brasschaat, a single mother with three children, also noticed this. “One child is younger than three years old, and therefore still goes to childcare. It was checked that I did not want a reduction for childcare. That is of course not true. I do want that, because that is to my advantage,” she said. to the commercial channel.

What seems? In the simplified tax letter, it is always checked for children under the age of three that the parent(s) do not want a reduction for childcare. The tax authorities then assume a standard amount of 600 euros. In Vanessa’s case, 2,876.35 euros was not included in the tax benefit. “Because it was checked that I wouldn’t want that.”

Childcare, loans and gifts

It is therefore important to carefully check your pre-completed tax form. Ive Rosseel, advisor at the ACV study service, explains what you should definitely pay attention to: “Dependent children: are my children effectively filled? Loans: are my loans filled in and are they optimally filled between me and my partner, for example? “

“If you have a disability: has that disability been checked? If you incurred certain expenses, such as childcare costs or gifts: have all these items been filled in?”
