To tackle the housing crisis, the party, for example, advocates one minister who is responsible for a more decisive and integrated housing policy. All housing companies must merge into a Brussels Regional Housing Company and the registration fees for the purchase bracket between 200,000 and 600,000 euros must be reduced from 12.5 to 6%.

One police zone, Flemish powers retained

The party wants to achieve a unified regional security policy, in which the six police zones are merged. The Christian Democrats want more respect on the streets so that the city becomes more pleasant, cleaner and safer.

On an institutional level, the party wants Flanders’ own powers to be fully retained in Brussels. If the French-speaking side opts for the transfer of community powers to Brussels institutions, this is only possible if the Flemish choice not to do so is respected and with respect for all existing rules, including language legislation.

City Region

In addition, CD&V wants to reduce the number of governments with the establishment of the Brussels-Capital Region, the Flemish Community and, depending on the choice of the French speakers, a further role for the French Community or the French Community Commission (Cocof).

Finally, Brussels must urgently work on a structural budgetary balance and control of the public debt for CD&V.

The stakes are also high in Brussels for the elections for the Flemish parliament, says party leader Bianca Debaets: “The bond between Flanders and Brussels is under more pressure than ever. More and more calls are being made to cut ties, for example by Flemish Community Commission”.
