The Spanish National Police have arrested a Belgian of Moroccan origin in the city of Tarifa (Cadix) who was wanted by Belgian authorities for membership of a criminal organization, drug trafficking and possession of weapons.

The criminal, who was subject to a European arrest warrant and an extradition warrant issued by the Court of First Instance in Brussels, was arrested at the maritime border post of Tarifa as he attempted to enter Spain from Morocco, reports El Debate Andalucia.

The suspect is wanted by Belgian judicial authorities for membership of a criminal network, drug trafficking, including marijuana, heroin and cocaine, in Anderlecht, and possession of weapons. He faces a prison sentence of 15 years for these three crimes.

After the formalities and the filing of the police report, the Belgian of Moroccan origin was made available to the national court in Madrid, which is competent to initiate the procedure for his extradition.
