“Recent reports from the Iran Human Rights Monitor (Iranhrm) show a worrying trend, the Iranian regime has executed 59 people in just two weeks,” the protesters said. “In addition, there were 72 executions in the month of April alone, which underlines the seriousness of the situation. Among those threatened with execution are Toomaj Salehi, a well-known rapper known for his activism, and during the uprising of September 2022 was arrested for his support of the uprising.”

The Iranian community in Belgium calls on the Belgian government, the European Union, the United Nations, the Human Rights Council and the Special Rapporteur on Iran to intervene urgently and put pressure on the Iranian regime to stop the executions and free political prisoners to let. During the demonstration in Brussels, demonstrators carried images of political prisoners sentenced to death, including Toomaj Salehi, and of Maryam Rajavi, president of the NCRI.

“Khamenei is resorting to a wave of mass executions to counter the uprising and especially the resistance of women in Iran,” Maryam Rajavi said. “I call on the UN Security Council and the European Union to take urgent action to hold Iran’s ruling mullahs accountable, to stop the machine of oppression and execution and save the lives of those convicted.”
