Former porn king Dennis Black Magic Burkas has appealed against his immediate arrest and will know on Monday whether he should remain in prison or be allowed home for the time being.

The criminal court of Tongeren convicted Burkas last week of rape, indecent assault of eight women, harassment, incitement to prostitution and possession of child pornography material. In addition to the prison sentence, he was also sentenced to pay a fine of 4,000 euros and to be disqualified from driving for a period of ten years.

He was immediately arrested. The police picked him up at home and took him to jail. “We have filed an appeal. Both against the verdict and against his immediate arrest,” his lawyer Mounir Souidi said.

“That appeal against his immediate arrest will be heard before the Indictment Chamber on Monday. We will also know on Monday whether my client can go home, with or without an ankle monitor, or whether he must remain in prison. Both options are possible. I spoke to my client in prison. He knows how things are going there, but he’s not really doing well. He has a wife and child and hopes that he can return home soon pending the appeal on the merits.”
