The waste figures from Limburg.net show that Limburgers are sorting better and better. The waste intermunicipal company bases this on an increase in the number of kilograms of organic waste, PMD, kitchen waste and garden waste collected. According to Limburg.net, this is all waste that no longer ends up with household waste.

The increase in kitchen and garden waste is particularly good news, because since January 1, Europe has no longer allowed organic waste to be thrown into household waste. 24 percent more was collected for both groups.
In general, the number of kilograms of household waste during home collections increases by 2 percent. This increase could partly be explained by population growth. As a result, the average number of kilograms of household waste per inhabitant remains fairly stable.

Limburg.net sees the same trend in the recycling parks it manages. They also receive slightly more waste, but people sort relatively better. This means that 10 percent more garden waste is also brought in separately. Smaller types of waste such as candle wax or cork, which used to often end up in the household waste, are now increasingly placed separately in the correct container.

What is striking in the figures for recycling parks is the collection of plastics, which has almost quadrupled compared to 2022. “This is due to a pilot project in five parks in North Limburg. After last summer, we collected swimming pools and inflatable water figures separately there. often end up in the rubbish bin after the summer holidays,” says Hans Roggen of Limburg.net.

In addition, asbestos collection at home is also catching on. Limburgers have been able to order a container or special bag for 4 years, which must include good equipment to remove the asbestos. You will also receive an instruction leaflet. When you have finished removing the plates, they will be collected or you can take them to the recycling park yourself. In total, almost 1 million kilograms more asbestos will have been collected from homes in 2023, an increase of 20 percent compared to 2022.
