Fedustria, the umbrella federation for the textile, wood and furniture industries, wants to get children interested in these fields of work with a digital game, Twiinz.world. They joined forces with Trendwolfs and Epic Games, known for Fortnite, to shape the game.

“The children build their dream world. Our various member companies added furniture in different fabrics. So the children not only choose a nice color, but can choose from a range of different materials,” explains Karla Basselier, CEO of Fedustria.

“By basing this game on existing games that they know inside out, such as Minecraft and Fortnite, the basis is recognizable to them and they can quickly get used to it.”

Pupils

The first children, fourth-year students at Via Louise primary school, test out the game during a workshop in Antwerp’s MoMu fashion museum.

“It was difficult at first, but then I was able to ask questions and try things out and now things are going much better,” notes Mil (9). “Fashion designer seems like a nice job to me. And building and putting together houses in this way, to give inspiration to others, is something I would really like to do.”

“I am currently teaching about art and heritage in the fourth grade, so there was no better way to engage with the subject matter in a playful way,” says teacher Tiffany Mariën. “It’s so nice to see my students so fascinated, I’m really enjoying it.”

Twininfluencers

Two female gamers are also walking among the concentrated children. Ziczackitty and Nessiruu are known from the streaming platform Twitch where they film themselves trying out games.

“We are both very fond of games with an educational touch,” says Ziczackitty. “This collaboration was tailor-made for us. We also like that during this workshop everyone has the opportunity to dive into a 3D world. At home, not everyone may have the resources to do so.”

The MoMu plans to include furniture from some Fedustria member companies in an exhibition in 2025. There are therefore plans to integrate this workshop into the exhibition.

The councilor of Culture Nabilla Ait Daoud (N-VA) is already enthusiastic. “You also see that the children are motivated by stimulating them in their world. If we can support such projects and future plans as a city, that seems like a great initiative to me.”

Contest

With this workshop, Fedustria visits four different places. They started today at the MoMu in Antwerp and will go to Campus Godsheide Hasselt, Texture in Kortrijk and the Industry Museum in Ghent.

“It’s so much fun, I really want to continue playing this game at home. I’m going to ask if that is also possible on my laptop,” says Hidaya (9) enthusiastically.

And that is possible. They can also log in at home via their account, participate in three assignments and even win a nice prize.

The fifteen best dream worlds can go to Epic Games in London with Fedustria this summer.
