The final minute was too much: Red Devils still give away lead at Wembley | Red Devils

--

The Red Devils just missed out on victory in the prestigious practice match against England at Wembley. Thanks to two goals from Tielemans – one of which came after a beautiful assist from Lukaku – the Belgians seemed to be on their way to victory, but deep into the added time the inevitable Bellingham still secured a draw.

LOOK. The summary of England-Belgium

After a slow first ten minutes we suddenly saw two goals in a handful of minutes. After Pickford’s poor clearance, the ball ended up at the feet of Tielemans via Onana, who punished the English goalkeeper’s blunder with an anti-footed slide.

However, the Devils could not enjoy that lead for long. Vertonghen – who was flanked at the center back by Anderlecht teammate Debast – was caught in the back by Toney and then took down the striker, with or without hitting the ball. Penalty kick for the English, Toney himself got behind the ball and scored.

As the first half progressed, England tightened their grip on the match. But just then Tielemans and Lukaku came up with a great counter. After a good long ball from the first, ‘Big Rom’ shook a wonderful cross from the outside of his left foot. Tielemans, who ran through, headed in from close range. A fantastic goal, which gave the Devils a 1-2 lead at half time.

Immediately after the break, a small English siege followed, but the Devils were able to fall back on an excellent Matz Sels. With good saves he kept Toney, Foden and Mainoo from scoring the equalizer. The Belgians were only able to counter sporadically.

The home team continued to look for holes in the Belgian defense belt, with a busy Foden in particular. The man-in-form of Manchester City had an excellent chance to make it 2-2, but he kicked wide. At the beginning of added time, Lukebakio failed to decide the match.

And that really hurt the Devils. Because after questionable defending, Bellingham scored the 2-2 with almost the last ball touch of the match. Even though it was a practice match, it was still a bit of a blow, because winning against England would have been nice after the disappointing performance against Ireland.
