The Antwerp police pulled over several drivers on Saturday after traffic violations. A man claimed he urgently needed to go to the hospital because his wife was about to give birth… and was presented with the bill.

The traffic support team (VOT) of the South region noticed on Saturday during the event ‘The Longest Table’ in the Abdijstraat on Kiel how a driver drove into a street despite a prohibition sign. “The man also ignored police orders to stop, endangering pedestrians. In addition, he hindered the construction of the event,” said the police, who were able to stop the driver at the next intersection for a check.

“The man tried to get away with the excuse that his wife urgently needed to give birth. His wife sat quietly. When the police offered to escort the car to the hospital, he laconically replied that the birth was not scheduled until next week. He was presented with the bill,” the police said.

Three other speed demons saw their driver’s licenses revoked. “A driver was driving at 84 km/h in the Olieweg. A lady was driving at 76 km/h in Photographylaan. On the Oudebaan, another lady clocked in at a speed of 60 km/hour,” the police summarize. The three streets are in zone 30. The drivers saw their driver’s license revoked for 15 days.

Finally, the police had two cars towed because they were hindering the construction of the event. 33 vehicles were parked incorrectly. The next day, the police also fined five illegal parkers.
