WILLEMSTAD – During the national veterans championships, 2 players from Witac achieved first place.
Early on Sunday morning, Kees Heijstek, Dulon Gerdes, Arthur Baalman and Cor Bom left for the veterans championships in Schiedam. These championships are organized by the Old Timers (table tennis) Club. It is a busy and fun tournament that is held annually. In the morning the doubles games were played: duos Dulon – Cor and Arthur – Kees. No prizes were won here. The singles games were played in the afternoon. The games were played in various categories, depending on age and strength. Arthur played in category 50 – 60 (B4); he came 2nd in his group, in the semi-finals he easily defeated the number 1 of the other group. In the final he lost the first game, came back strong and then won three times easily. Kees and Dulon played in category 60-70 (C5). The latter came first, Kees came second in his group; the semi-final between Kees and Dulon was a clear victory for Dulon. He then easily won the final. The differences in strength among the over-70s (D4) are quite large, Cor nevertheless won a few games, and that was it. bee.[n]
