A bus driver from Boom who was caught removing a shipment of cocaine in the port on Monday will remain in jail for at least another month. A young security officer from Borgerhout also remains in prison.

Bus driver Rocky K. (44), who is well known in Boom, was arrested in the port of Antwerp on Monday. He drives around as a driver with a shuttle bus that allows dock workers and other employees in the port to get around. K. is said to have been involved in the removal of a shipment of cocaine on Monday evening, and he may have been called in to bring the extractors to the container terminal.

Terminal employees had seen a number of suspicious figures hanging around between the container stacks on Monday evening. At the scene, the police were able to arrest Rocky K. and an Albanian man was also handcuffed. A security guard, 19-year-old Imrane L. from Borgerhout, fled after the attack. He turned himself in at the Antwerp police zone later that evening. A shipment of cocaine was found at the container terminal, amounting to approximately 280 kilograms. However, that would only be part of the batch to be removed; another part would, according to rumors, have been ‘saved’ in the environment by the extractors.

The three arrested men appeared before the council chamber on Friday. Their arrest was confirmed. “My client will cooperate with the investigation,” said lawyer Mathias De Daele, who is representing Rocky K.. K. will not appeal against the confirmation of his arrest and will appear before the council chamber again within a month. The young Imrane L., who is assisted by lawyer Sam Vlaminck, was initially allowed to go home by the council chamber with an ankle bracelet. However, the public prosecutor’s office appealed against that decision and L. will appear before the Indictment Chamber within two weeks.
