The Red Devils’ match against Ireland was a disappointment for the crowd. However, analyst Wim De Coninck looked at the match with a different perspective and still identified the bright spots among the players.
“In the first half all the initiative came from Leandro Trossard. You saw that he is someone who is in shape and feels good. I didn’t think Koni De Winter’s first performance was bad either – we have already seen other debutants,” he says at Sporza.
Onana is an interesting additional option
De Coninck also thought Thomas Meunier’s comeback was more than successful. And of course the save on the penalty kick was of great value. “He was good, radiated confidence and experience. Matz Sels also scored points with that crucial penalty save.”
De Coninck also saw an interesting intervention that national coach Domenico Tedesco carried out at the end of the match and was successful. “Tedesco’s intervention to push Amadou Onana back into the slot. He launched a good long ball, won his headed duels and used his insight into the game. An interesting additional option, then.”
