‘Confiture war’ underway between Meghan Markle and Buckingham Palace

A few days ago, as part of a marketing campaign, Meghan Markle sent a jar of jam from her new lifestyle brand to about fifty celebrities. And it just so happens that Buckingham Palace is also now putting its jam in the spotlight.

Meghan Markle launched her new lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard in mid-March. But despite the many articles that have already been written about the brand, no products have yet been launched. Until a few days ago. Then fifty lucky people received an exclusive jar of Markle’s jam. The Duchess of Sussex sent such a jar, delivered in a basket full of lemons, to about fifty ‘influencers’, including Kris Jenner, Chrissy Teigen and Tracee Ellis Ross.

They all posted a photo of the jars, showing that each jar has its own number, on social media. Exclusivity is therefore important to Markle. The jar also shows a kind of coat of arms, which is strikingly similar to the coat of arms of the British royal family.

Markle and her husband Prince Harry are not allowed to use their titles for commercial purposes. They have clearly agreed on this with the royal family. But for now, Markle seems to be doing a good job of circumventing those rules.

Coincidence or not: the Buckingham Palace Shop published a video on Wednesday evening in which they promoted the royal family’s jam. “Our strawberry jam is made from only the best berries and is delicious to serve in different ways,” it says. The video shows their favorite way to eat the jam. On a scone, on a crumpet, on a croissant or simply on toast. Many see this as a subtle sneer at Meghan Markle.
