SHOWBIZZDutch presenter Tom Egbers (66) will again make programs for the NOS. He will focus on narrative programs and documentaries, in the way he previously did in the NTR programs ‘Toms England’, ‘-Ireland’ and ‘Scotland’. This news comes after he was accused last year of inappropriate behavior in the workplace of NOS Sport.

The Dutch presenter filed summary proceedings against his employer last week after he was accused of inappropriate behavior in the broadcaster’s sports department in March last year. He wanted to partly resume his TV work and believes that his employer is obliged to rehabilitation. Egbers demanded his work again in court, and in particular the matches of the Dutch national team, the European Football Championship in Germany this summer and the ‘Football Podcast’. The settlement revealed that this work is no longer possible for the presenter.

So Egbers will be working on narrative programs, documentaries and a number of other podcasts. “The NOS and Egbers, in their mutually shared desire to move forward, have made agreements about this after constructive consultation,” reads the NOS statement.

“After a year in which a lot has been written, talked about and expressed opinions, it is good to get back to work,” Egbers said in a statement from the NOS. “I have constantly reflected on myself in the past year, especially on my own role in the culture of NOS. I find it very sad that there are colleagues who have felt unhappy on the work floor of NOS Sport, in a culture that I am also a part of. That I am a different person in the eyes of younger colleagues position is exclusively that of “a colleague”, I have not fully realized this. I fully recognize the importance and impact of the Van Rijn Committee report, and therefore also that things have to be different in the workplace. Better listening to each other and having an eye for others. There has been too much of that lacking, including in me.”

NOS family

NOS says it understands that “it has been a difficult period for Tom and his family and would have liked to see NOS’s role in this had been different.” NOS also realizes that Tom has been part of the NOS family for the past 40 years.

In response, editor-in-chief Gert-Jaap Hoekman of NOS Sport says: “I am happy that NOS and Tom have reached an agreement and have been able to make good agreements about a suitable continuation that does justice to his long career at the broadcaster. Good thing we found each other after all. Now it’s time to get back to work.”

The programs that Tom Egbers will make will be broadcast in the autumn of 2024 and the beginning of 2025. It has been agreed to extend Tom’s employment until after his retirement in order to complete the agreed work.
