The makers, directors Linda Hakeboom and Rolf Hartogensis, filmed Stien den Hollander, as her real name is, during her performance for 200 million people at the Eurovision Song Contest in Turin, but they also shot at her home. The common thread of the film is the mental problems that S10 struggled with as an adolescent. She ended up in various youth institutions. In addition to the influence of her past, the documentary also portrays “the pressure from the media and the public. What is it like to always be asked about dark pages from your past?” With the film, the makers hope to discuss “a major theme of this generation”, namely the growing number of young people struggling with mental problems.

“Maybe despite all the shit there is a possibility to keep going, to make music and just write and sing. Something that has saved me every day for seven years. Even if this documentary about me did something for one person what it did for me when I watched a documentary about singer Jelte Rebel, I would be very honored,” says the Dutch singer.

‘S10-that I continue to do well’ will be broadcast on NPO3 on Wednesday, May 22. The film can be seen on NPO Start from Monday 20 May.
