First pay with the meal voucher card and then take out your bank card to pay the remaining amount. We’ve all experienced it at the bakery or in the supermarket. Payconiq wants to put an end to this situation with a new function in the app.

In the Payconiq app on your smartphone you have been able to add meal vouchers from Edenred, Monizze and Pluxee as a payment method for two years. This allows you to pay for food and drinks in the store by scanning a QR code.

Until now, however, you sometimes had to make a second payment. This was the case if, for example, you did not have sufficient balance on your meal voucher card for the full amount or because you purchased products that were not allowed to be paid for with it.

In a press release, Bancontact Payconiq Company reports that their app is coming with a useful update. As a result, you will only have to scan the QR once if you have added your meal voucher card to the Payconiq app in advance. Three things can happen after that:

• If you have sufficient balance and you only buy food and/or drinks, the full amount will be deducted from your meal vouchers.

• If you do not have enough balance and you only buy food and/or drinks, the remaining amount will be taken from your linked bank account.

• If you purchased other products in addition to food and/or drinks, that amount will be debited from your account without having to make a separate payment.

Payconiq Bancontact Company also announces that KBC customers will soon also receive this functionality in the bank’s app. The press release does not clarify when exactly, but it is already possible to link your meal voucher card to KBC Mobile. You can then use it to pay via a QR code from Payconiq.

The company also points out that the new function only works for the 3,000 smaller merchants that offer payments via a QR code on a sticker or on the smartphone. The convenient combined payment is not yet possible at “large retailers such as supermarkets”, “but that is the intention for the future”.
