According to the PVDA/PTB municipal councilor, the shoe pinches mainly with the second part: the public tenders of the non-profit organizations managed by the municipality. After all, remuneration and benefits for directors of those non-profit organizations are published on the municipal website.

“A manager of Le Logement Molenbeekois was recently dismissed due to a conflict of interest in a public tender. Because of such an incident, transparency towards citizens and staff about government contracts is crucial,” says De Block.

However, the purple majority swept the motion of the Molenbeek Marxists off the table. PS faction leader Khalil Boufraquech did amend the text, as a result of which the majority will now “remind the non-profit organizations of the law”. According to De Block, the PS is playing a political game and the French-speaking socialists refuse to support a PVDA/PTB proposal.

“It is the non-profit organizations that have to publish their transparency reports themselves,” counters Boufraquech. “So why doesn’t De Block ask those non-profit organizations directly? Moreover, some municipal associations do this,” claims the Molenbeek municipal councilor.

“But I admit: we can do more. That is why I tabled this amendment.” Opposition parties PVDA/PTB and Ecolo abstained from the vote. De Block dismisses the fact that certain municipal non-profit organizations have published a transparency report as “lies”.
