The weather again caused some problems in and around Hasselt on Monday evening. The fire brigade was pumping with all its might around 10 p.m. to keep the water out of houses. A roof also had to be closed in the Oude Heidestraat after lightning struck it.

In some streets in Diepenbeek and Hasselt the water was so high after the storm around 7 p.m. that the fire brigade had to start pumping to keep the water out of the houses. In Diepenbeek and Godsheide the well-known underwater streets: Kiezelstraat, Peperstraat, Zegestraat. Some streets had now turned into small rivers. The cause was often a clogged siphon. The Spalbeekstraat was partly closed to all traffic because it was too dangerous to drive there.

In some places the situation was untenable and water ran into the cellars. In Kuringen lightning also struck the chimney of a house. It crumbled and made a hole in the roof. The fire brigade ensured that the roof was covered.

A number of emergency calls also came from Herk-de-Stad, Sint-Truiden and Tessenderlo.

In total, the Southwest Limburg fire brigade received about thirty calls after Monday’s rain shower.
