New single Origami Angel – “Fruit Wine”

--

Origami Angel, nicknamed Gami, is a band from Washington DC that is easy to introduce. Ryland Heagy on the microphone and guitar and Pat Doherty on the drums. Finished. The duo has already released three full-length albums since 2019 and is mainly characterized by the poppy rock sound that is conjured up from their extremely small collection of instruments. The American duo makes songs that always sound remarkably melodic. There are quite a few bands that release music and perform as a pair. Think of Royal Blood, Lightning Bolt, SOFT PLAY and a whole lot more. Often a duo creates a concrete sound wall that is simply impossible to get through. It is not at all easy with the two of you because as a musician you cannot have a dip during a concert or have to rely on three, four or five other musicians who try to cover up your own nonsense.

“Fruit Wine” is, as always with Origami Angel, a very melodic pop song with sharp edges. That can quickly sound boring or just way too empty without other instruments. And that is what the band is very good at: a sweet sounding sound that is very full and yet is only carried by a guitar and a drum. The harmony between the two also sounds fantastic. In the middle of the song Heagy surprises the listener with a short solo that sounds exactly like Rage Against The Machine. We believe that wine should be made from grapes and not from any other fermented fruit, because that is often just bland junk. We would like to make a rare exception for the song “Fruit Wine”. In short: Origami Angel is like Foo Fighters, but the duo has to split the royalties into two equal parts. Useful!
