The sixteen-year-old daughter of two of Silicon Valley’s most famous entrepreneurs has gone missing. Mint Butterfield, the only child of Slack founder Stewart Butterfield and Flickr founder Caterina Fake, has disappeared without a trace in the US state of California since Sunday. That reports The San Francisco Standard.

The teenager was last seen around 10pm in Bolinas, the aforementioned state. Before that, she was at her mother’s home in affluent Marin County. She reported her daughter missing the next morning. Butterfield should be in the Tenderloin district. That is a notorious area for its high crime rate and large-scale homeless problem.

This does not come as a surprise to the police. Butterfield is seen as a problem teenager who has struggled with addiction problems in the past. For that reason she would be known in and around the Tenderloin. Journalist Yashar Ali shares a police photo of the sixteen-year-old on X, indicating that she is missing. He also calls for help in the search for the girl.

As mentioned, Butterfield is the daughter of Stewart Butterfield and Caterina Fake. The two founded the photo platform Flickr in 2004, after which it was sold to Yahoo in 2005. Butterfield later founded messaging service Slack, which was acquired by Salesforce in 2021 for $28 billion (26.1 billion euros). Fake and Butterfield married in 2001 and divorced in 2007, the year they had their daughter Mint.
