The ‘Royal Romance’, the luxury yacht of a pro-Russian Ukrainian oligarch, will soon go under the hammer. And with a 3D cinema, swimming pool and waterfall on board, this will be the most expensive object ever sold by the Dutch auction house Troostwijk Auctions.

As early as 2022, Ukrainian Viktor Medvedchuk (68) – also pro-Kremlin – had to say goodbye to his Royal Romance, a 92.5-meter yacht, as part of the Western sanctions at the start of the war. Medvedchuk was also arrested in April that year due to his close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin. The latter would be the godfather of Medvedchuck’s daughter. But Medvedchuk is again free after a prisoner exchange.

However, he will not get his super yacht – of Dutch make – back. Because the gigantic luxury ship – which can accommodate as many as fourteen guests – will soon be auctioned by the Dutch auction house Troostwijk Auctions. The hope is that the ship will yield between 100 million and 200 million euros. “But the buying public is not very large. So I don’t know if it will work,” says director Arno Hendrikse The Algemeen Dagblad.

Details

Those who can afford it will not only get a gigantic ship to travel on for those hundreds of millions. But above all a very luxurious yacht. Because in addition to a swimming pool on the deck, a cinema and a helipad, it also has a waterfall that flows over the stern and is illuminated with LED lights.

The fourteen guests are not alone on the ship, because it is also served by about twenty employees. And with the two smaller boats, guests can be taken to places where the large yacht cannot go. Those who prefer something more adventurous can also use the water scooter.

Dark accents

And then there’s the inside of the yacht, designed by Fiona Diamond who founded Seymour Diamond, known for high-end superyacht designs. And every detail, every piece of wood or furniture, has been thought through. “Crockery may seem like a small detail on a boat, but it is an important consideration. You want to be able to offer a different experience in each of the dining areas of the boat and it is important to think about the customer’s wishes and how they like to do things,” she said in a rare interview with Boat International.

For the Royal Romance she chose dark accents in wood, glass, cream-white furniture and a light but soft floor.

It is not yet clear when the boat will be sold. The proceeds benefit the Ukrainian defense budget.
