Axana Ceulemans from Def Dames Dope is a grandma for the first time: “I couldn’t have children myself, I’m going to spoil my granddaughter hard” | Ltd

Axana and her partner Wim (57) have been a couple for 23 years, but they have no children together. The Def Dames Dope singer has two plus sons, Jorn and Nils. Jorn travels the world as a circus artist with Cirque du soleil. Nils and his wife Freya became parents for the first time to a daughter, Myla, on April 23. “I immediately thought it was a beautiful name. The picture is correct. For me it is the first time that I am a grandmother and that I experience the birth of such a little one up close. Wim and I are very happy. The delivery went very well, without complications. The mom and baby are doing well,” Axana responds.

Due to her partner Wim’s back problems, Axana was unable to visit her granddaughter yet. “But tomorrow, Sunday, the time has finally come. With the necessary painkillers, my husband will be able to come along. We are really looking forward to it. I already saw her in a photo. A small, nice girl. One of the most beautiful babies I have ever seen. (laughs) But her parents prefer to keep her out of the spotlight.”

Because she was unable to have children of her own, it feels extra special for Axana to be a grandma. “At the age of 26 I had cervical cancer and because my mother also had cancer, we decided to remove everything. Afterwards it turned out that my uterus was not fully grown, so a pregnancy might also have caused a lot of problems,” Axana explains. “I was not allowed to become a mother, but I look at it positively. That way I was able to do everything I wanted. And our granddaughter is coming at the right time, I now have more time. I’m going to enjoy it immensely. Very nice that I can experience this. Like every grandmother, I am very proud.”

I’m already looking forward to going to all the K3 shows with my granddaughter

As a young grandmother, Axana is really looking forward to going out with her granddaughter. “I recently received a discount voucher for a zoo, but it’s still a bit too early for that, right?” she laughs. “As a child and young adult, I thought it was great to go to the Efteling and zoos. I can totally see doing that again. And of course I will take her to all K3 shows.”

Last week Axana was on the set for the recording of the new clip of the K3 summer single ‘Summer of Love’, but that was only one time, she says. “I did Tommy, the regular K3 choreographer, a favor by standing in for him because he couldn’t do it himself. Is there a fight between Tommy and K3? No, he’s just very busy with Camille’s shows. It is certainly the intention that Tommy will continue to work with K3, because I have no intention of continuing to do so. I now want to spend time with my granddaughter.” (laughs)

Axana and her partner will mainly look after their granddaughter during weekends and school holidays. “We live in Herentals, Nils and Freya in Lebbeke. That means an hour to two hours of driving to get there. But we will be happy to look after our granddaughter on weekends and holidays.”

Myla is already lucky with her grandmother. “I’m definitely going to pamper her,” she nods. “I have already bought a lot of presents, especially things that they can use. I’ve been buying diapers for at least a year now. I also provided the baptism sugar and bought items from the birth list.”
