New single PAPPAS – “Rosa”

--

PAPPAS is a brand new project by Wouter Souvereyns and Ruben Vanhoutte. You may know Souvereyns as the bassist of indie pop band Warhola, but he has also been making music on his own for several years under the pseudonym WZA. He has already released three EPs, on which he fluctuates between funky hip-hop and R&B. His debut album SAWADO was released in 2021. Vanhoutte is the drummer for Tamino and since 2018 also for Jaguar Jaguar. The musicians joined forces to create PAPPAS. The duo released its first single “My Thunder” in March and is now releasing a second, called “Rosa.”

With “Rosa” PAPPAS translates the game of attraction and repulsion. The initial fascination fades into doubt when it turns out that the person you’re so in love with may not be as compatible as you imagined. If it weren’t for the lyrics, the song wouldn’t sound so downbeat at all. A sultry, humid atmosphere hangs in the air due to the slightly exotic sounds. The pair keeps it quite calm and subdued, but with a touch of Warhola turned “Rosa” into a song that still subtly encourages you to sway your hips. The clean vocals make the feeling even more intimate, due to the soft way in which they are delivered. The interplay of two partners who continue to circle around each other is given extra emphasis when we also hear a female voice. What PAPPAS offers us leaves us wanting more. PAPPAS has a potential that sets our ears on edge, because as far as we are concerned, there is a meritorious event on the horizon here.

On May 14, PAPPAS will play in BarBroos in Ghent. The next day you can spot the duo in Farrm in Hasselt.
