Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have reinvested in a football club. The actors, who became owners of the Welsh football club Wrexham AFC a few years ago, have purchased shares in the Mexican football club Club Necaxa from Aguascalientes, according to trade magazine Variety.

The club is co-managed by actress Eva Longoria, who reportedly also introduced her colleagues Reynolds and McElhenney to the club. It is not known how large the acting duo’s share is, but according to Variety it is a small share.

It is far from certain whether, following Welcome to Wrexham, a TV series will be made about the Mexican football club. The series, which can be seen on Disney+, followed the rise and success of Reynolds and McElhenney at the Welsh football club. Unlike Wrexham AFC, which was in the fifth English tier when purchased by Reynolds and McElhenney, Club Necaxa already plays on the highest level. The Mexican club was very successful, especially in the 1990s. Since the takeover by the actors, Wrexham AFC has now been promoted to the third professional level in England.
