Trump’s former lawyer should be removed from office for attempting to overturn election results

--

The ruling was made by a judge of the State Bar Court of California, the court that deals with disciplinary matters in the legal profession. There was previously a disciplinary case against Eastman for misleading the court and making false statements. The California Supreme Court has the final say in the case.

Eastman, a former personal lawyer for Trump, is now his co-defendant in the criminal case in Georgia over attempts to influence the 2020 election results. He drafted legal memos proposing that then-Vice President Mike Pence refuse to certify the results of a number of swing states, states where there was a battle between Democrats and Republicans. After all, Pence would be present as vice president on the day that Congress met to certify Joe Biden’s victory. Pence said, truthfully, he does not have that authority.

Eastman also represented Trump in a lawsuit in which the then president sought to have votes invalidated through the Supreme Court in four states where Trump alleged election fraud. Eastman also repeated Trump’s fraud claims at a rally outside the White House on January 6, 2021, the day the election results were set to be certified in favor of Joe Biden, the winner. Later that day, Trump supporters stormed the US Capitol.
