Controversial or not, the Eurovision Song Contest continues to dominate living rooms. Yesterday, the second semi-final attracted 973,860 viewers to VRT.

A striking difference with the figures on La Une, where the participations of, among others, our own Mustii and Europapasensation Joost Klein could charm a measly 343,069 people. And although it is not a fair comparison, the Eurovision hype in the Netherlands was completely unstoppable. 2,984,000 viewers watched the second semi-final there.

The moment Joost appeared on stage, that number rose to 4,181,000 viewers. It remains to be seen how many people will settle down in front of the television on Saturday, because the atmosphere is becoming increasingly grim. The broadcast on VRT started on Thursday evening with a pancarte: a Ceasefire message from the unions.

That did not go down well with Israel’s ambassador to Belgium. Like many other embassies in Europe, she expressed her dissatisfaction with the action and called for people to vote for Eden Golan, the candidate from Israel. And as for Joost Klein: he did not show up during Saturday’s rehearsal. He also unfollowed Eurovision on social media on Friday afternoon and deleted all his Stories about the festival. To be continued, no doubt.(dewo)
