TVThe popular British crime series ‘Vera’ is ending. After fourteen seasons, Brenda Blethyn (78), who plays the leading role as Inspector Vera Stanhope, is throwing in the towel. “It saddens me.”
After no less than fourteen seasons, the end of the detective series ‘Vera’ is near. Filming for the final season will take place this summer in Northumberland and East England. But there is still good news for fans, because it will consist of two 120-minute episodes, which will air in 2025. The series scored extremely well in Flanders and the Netherlands and was a ratings hit.
“Working on ‘Vera’ was a pleasure from start to finish and I’m sad to say goodbye. But I am so proud of what we have achieved over the past 14 years,” said Brenda Blethyn in a statement. The actress had been in doubt about her leading role for some time. On the one hand because she is already 78 years old and on the other hand because the recording location is quite remote, which means she has to miss her husband for a long time. Her co-star Kenny Doughty also recently left, which meant Brenda no longer wanted to continue.
“The producers, dream cast and crew were amazing and I will miss them. Mostly, I will not forget their immense talent and the friendship we shared, nor the love of our fans worldwide. I thank you from the bottom of my heart,” Blethyn also said.
‘Vera’ first aired in May 2011 and is inspired by Ann Cleeves’ bestseller ‘Vera Stanhope’.
