The Google Pixel 8a may soon be available to order from May 14, after it is expected to be launched on May 14, during Google I/O 2024. However, a new leak has already provided us with almost all the specs of the device, plus a euro price.
This leak comes from https://twitter.com/MysteryLupin/status/1786508830408339841 (via Android Police) and while some of this information has been leaked before, we haven’t seen such a detailed list of all the Pixel 8a’s specs before.
The device will run on the Tensor G3 chip (just like the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro) and is also equipped with 8GB of RAM, plus 128GB or 256GB of storage space. In terms of display, we are reportedly dealing with a 6.1-inch AMOLED display with a peak brightness of 2,000 nits.
If all goes well we will find two cameras on the back: a 64MP and 13MP camera. There is also a 13MP selfie camera on the front. This leak also mentions a whole bunch of AI photo editing features, but that’s to be expected on a Google Pixel phone. Furthermore, the battery should last up to 72 hours with battery saver on and “more than 24 hours” with normal use.
Colors and prices
There’s also an interesting list of color variants in this leak: ‘Volcanic Black’, ‘Porcelain’, ‘Blue’, ‘Azure’, ‘Green’ and ‘Aloe’. So it sounds like we’re getting two shades of blue and two shades of green for a total of six color options. Previous leaks only mentioned four colors. Of course, it could be that different color options will be available in different regions.
Thanks to this leak, we now also have a potential European starting price, namely 549 euros. This would mean that the device will be more expensive than the Google Pixel 7a, which cost 509 euros at launch. Prices could increase in several regions.
However, the price is not yet completely certain, because we have already seen 569 euros and 599 euros in previous leaks. So it seems that the leakers do not yet fully agree on whether the Pixel 8a will receive a price increase or not.
The final price of the Pixel 8a will have a major influence on the price-quality and whether it will be more interesting in that regard than the Pixel 8, which now costs 799 euros from Google. We will find out more about this soon.
