It promises to be an exciting final day next week for NAC. Jean-Paul van Gastel’s team could have qualified for the play-offs on Friday evening, but because the competitors won, a draw against ADO Den Haag was not enough.

On the day that rival Willem II secured promotion, NAC fought back to a point against ADO Den Haag. But because competitors FC Emmen and MVV won, they are coming closer. It will only be decided for NAC on the last day. As number seven, the people of Breda have one point more than FC Emmen and two more than MVV.

Aimé Omgba and Matthew Garbett returned to the starting line-up against ADO. Martin Koscelnik had lost his place in the first eleven after a good performance last week. Boyd Lucassen was the right back.

Lucassen in particular had a hard time on Friday evening. The agile winger Joel Ideho was the boss with some regularity. Halfway through, Lucassen was put out of his misery and Koscelnik was allowed to return to work. The score was already 0-2.

Two early goals conceded

ADO had gotten off to a good start in Breda. The team of ex-NAC player Alex Schalk was ahead after eight minutes. After a corner, Silvinho Esajas was completely released, he shot the ball past Pepijn van de Merbel. The second goal was scored just under ten minutes later.

Lucassen was passed by Ideho at the corner flag and then pushed him down in the sixteen-meter area. The penalty was used by Henk Veerman: 0-2. ADO still had chances for a third goal, but on behalf of NAC, Garbett and Omgba came closest to a tying goal.

Better second half

After just over an hour of play, NAC reduced the deficit. Both strikers (Tom Boere and Elías Már Ómarsson) had just been substituted. Substitute Roy Kuijpers provided the assist. Omgba finished it, making the supporters in Breda believe in it again.

NAC pressed, got better and equalized just before the end. Substitute Sigurd Haugen gave the final push: 2-2. A meritorious point, earned on the basis of a good second half. But it is not yet enough to participate in the play-offs. NAC will have to secure this next Friday at TOP Oss.

NAC line-up: From the Merbel; Lucassen (46. Koscelnik), Martina, Van den Bergh, Kemper (90. Royo); Garbett (84. Van Schuppen), Staring, Omgba, Janosek; Boere (62. Kuijpers) and Ómarsson (62. Haugen).
