GEMERT – You should know that ‘Gemert Weet’ is coming up again. Well, there is still more than half a year to go before another quality village quiz can be presented to the participating teams, but that is precisely what it is all about at the moment…

The first nice thing is that the teams can register again. The first five thinking and doing teams have already registered, all captains from the previous episode have been contacted and new teams are of course also welcome.
Fact number two is that the organization is looking for enthusiastic contributors, question makers, sponsor seekers, social media administrators and supporters of the quiz itself. This includes arranging the room, ensuring the starting assignment runs smoothly, the assignment locations, the book to be created, editing the questions, checking the answers and the festive award ceremony. The eleventh edition is in the pipeline and that should provide another unforgettable and challenging quiz…
Your reporter, who has been following the ins and outs of Gemert Weet for this newspaper since edition one, speaks with the new chairman, Marijn Haenen. He says: “I joined in 2018. A year earlier I was in the winning team, a merger of ‘Wit-te gei’t’ and ‘Sint Jans en dekinderen’ and I thought it would be fun to become a quiz creator instead of a quiz solver. I registered, initially mainly to ask questions, but we also have a board, which is a formal necessity. Moreover, compared to the accompanying photo from 2018, the number of organizational members has shrunk and because we want to maintain the level of the previous editions, we are urgently looking for additional and new blood.”
Together with Marijn, your reporter hopes that this appeal will stick. Gemert Weet has acquired a place in the annual rhythm of regular village events and it should remain that way. Marijn: “Of course, it is great fun to participate with a team and to have two enjoyable evenings, if I count the party evening with the awards ceremony. This fun also applies to the organizers, who meet once a month throughout the year. These are inspiring and creative meetings, in which there is a lot of brainstorming, but also and just as much laughter.”
Well, quizer or ‘quizmaster’, it doesn’t matter which you choose, as long as it is clear that that evening in November, when people are racking their brains here and there in the village and the internet is put on tilt, is a binding factor. Plenty of discussion material, before and after. It underlines the village feeling and the prize money goes to charities. Solving questions is therefore a useful and rewarding work for several reasons. Marijn: “The level is the same as the previous episode. The quality is the same, the quantity is slightly less, about 80%. Because fewer questions gives the opportunity to answer as many questions as possible, perhaps even all of them. And it is for all ages, both within the organization and in the participating teams!”
