Anderlecht failed to record its first victory in the Champions’ Play-offs in an away match. When they visited Cercle Brugge the score remained at 1-1.
Due to Club Brugge’s victory at Racing Genk, Anderlecht had lost its leading position to blue-black. So winning was the message for Anderlecht against Cercle Brugge.
The Association started the match best, but Anderlecht punished Cercle for a mistake at the back after ten minutes. Vazquez was given too much space, but still missed face to face with Warleson. Stroeykens had followed well and put the ball in.
Cercle Brugge tried to respond, but failed due to poor crosses. Just before half-time, Denkey had a great chance to make it 1-1 after a slide from Sardella, but the top scorer shot over.
Weak Anderlecht is still close to victory
Even after halftime, Cercle was the most dangerous team. Daland was also able to score after five minutes with a line, he blasted a rebound from a free kick past the hopeless Coosemans. Offensively, Anderlecht didn’t offer much after the break.
Cercle revived thanks to the equalizer and just after the hour, Denkey also had a chance, he headed wide. Somers hit Coosemans from close range ten minutes before the end. Anderlecht also had a great chance, but Delaney could not get the ball in.
