The toddlers at OLVE primary school ‘t Singeltje in Mortsel were allowed to play longer on their playground on Tuesday. Together with the parents and grandparents, they inaugurated their new classrooms and the greener playground.
The four new classrooms with sanitary facilities were already put into use at the beginning of this school year. The new building was more than necessary according to former director and managing director of the Zuidkant schools umbrella organization, Peter Nys. “’t Singeltje has always been known for its cozy atmosphere, but also for its old buildings. The building that was replaced not only dated from the 1950s, it also showed cracks on the inside.”
After a long preparation, the new building is now up and running. In one go, the playground was also paved and playground equipment was installed. The school received a provincial subsidy for the works. “’t Singeltje registered for our softening project for playgrounds in which more than two hundred schools participated. The 15,000 euros in support was well spent, giving the school the Green Oasis label,” says deputy Luk Lemmens.
Now that the playground is ready, it was time to celebrate all the new features with a greening party. (fisp)
