Beveren-Waas

In the ultimate battle for the title, Asterix Avo was still able to force a decisive match on Saturday. Coach Kris Vansnick’s team outflanked Tchalou, which, encouraged by several hundred noisy and enthusiastic supporters who traveled with it, could not gain a foothold. The curtain falls on the competition in Beveren on Wednesday with a sixteenth title for Asterix Avo Beveren or a first for Tchalou.

Asterix Avo wasted no time from the start. With captain Manon Stragier serving, the Waaslanders quickly led 8-1. “Such a flying start immediately gave us confidence,” Manon Stragier reflects. “After losing at Tchalou last week, we found ourselves with our backs against the wall. Also in the second set, in which Tchalou offered more resistance, we were able to succeed halfway through the decisive gap. We played it more smoothly in the third reprise.”

“Last week’s training paid off,” says coach Vansnick. “Our attacking triangle and our setter were there. We were able to execute everything perfectly. We are sober enough to realize that we have nothing in our hands yet. The score is now 1-1 and we still have one more match to win. Fortunately, we can regain our home advantage on Wednesday. But feet on the ground. Today we did our job and I am especially happy that we did not disappoint our supporters.”

Response from Krenicky

Game distributor Charlotte Krenicky clearly enjoyed her match. A match in which she was severely criticized by the visiting supporters. “In the heat of the moment, I let myself go for a moment and Tchalou’s supporters saw that. Nothing special, but it was an adrenaline-filled move. After the match, all that is forgotten,” says Krenicky. “Mission accomplished for us today. After losing last week, we knew what we had to do today. Unlike last week, we now played with conviction. Last week’s doubts have been replaced by confidence. Partly due to Stragier’s beautiful serving sequence, we were immediately in a good position in the match. Hopefully we can do that again on Wednesday. Undoubtedly nothing is left to chance,” concludes the game distributor.
