Two cars collided below the Kleiberg on Saturday at 2.45 pm. A young driver, who was driving her BMW towards Brakel, lost control of the steering wheel and crossed the full white line with her car. (Read more below the photos)

There she crashed her left wheel into the left wheel of a Mercedes SUV. The young woman was taken to hospital in shock. The driver of the Mercedes, a young man from Zingem, escaped unscathed. A car driving in front of the Mercedes narrowly avoided a collision with the BMW. “A passenger shouted that a car was coming towards us,” says Zottegemse. “I couldn’t immediately swerve because of a crash barrier on the right side of the road. Fortunately, I was able to narrowly avoid a collision. With my smaller car with three passengers, the consequences would have been much worse.” Due to the accident, the N8 was closed to traffic for more than an hour between the intersection with Krijge and Gentsestraat. Fire station Brakel diverted traffic via Krijge. Both cars were towed. (Eric De Pessemier)
