Valentijn Driessen is pleased with the way Alex Kroes has reacted to his return to Ajax and his relationship with Michael van Praag. Kroes was suspended by the supervisory board at the beginning of this month for alleged insider trading and Van Praag, chairman of the supervisory board, closed the door on a return on the same day. Van Praag reversed that decision, which means that Kroes and he now have to work together. According to Driessen, Kroes is not ‘resentful’, unlike someone at the table Today Inside.

In Friday evening’s broadcast, Kroes’ interview was discussed on Thursday evening after the scheduled members meeting at the De Toekomst sports complex. The Utrecht native, who took up his position as general manager on March 15 last but has now returned as technical director, was AT5 asked, among other things, about his relationship with Van Praag. According to Kroes, there was no ‘malice’ on the part of Van Praag, who initially did not want to know about the suspended general manager’s return and repeated this several times.

Van Praag eventually came back to this. Ajax announced on Thursday that Kroes will return to the position of technical director after his suspension. I think that’s great, so to speakDriessen responded to Kroes’ interview. There are a lot of people who are quite resentful. I won’t say who, but some are resentful. He’s not. Wilfred Genee looked at the word ‘resentful’ and wanted to hear a name from Driessen. Well, there’s one sitting here at the table. Who? Yes, you can guess that yourself”, replied the reporter from The Telegraphfollowed by an awkward silence.

“With that white jacket on?”, Johan Derksen joked about Genee. The presenter himself was in the dark. “Then you end up with all four if I’m very honest,” he laughed. Derksen then wanted to keep it serious for a while. “You know what’s crazy about Valentine’s Day? He is the technical director, but everything is actually determined by two young gentlemen who are new. I hope they have qualities. It is nice that two young people now get the chance there,” Derksen referred to the duo Marijn Beuker and Kelvin de Lang. “I sat with them with Mike Verweij. They made a good impression on me, but they are rookies,” said Driessen.
