HUIJBERGEN – Today, Mayor Adriaansen presented eight residents of Woensdrecht with a Royal Decoration during the General Occasion 2024, also known as the Ribbon Rain. The sixth person who was surprised this day is Bert Verlaan (68) from Huijbergen.

Mr Bert Verlaan from Huijbergen has been appointed Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau. Mr Verlaan has been committed to the Huijbergen first aid association for 35 years. This association makes an important contribution to local safety/health (by providing support at events, maintaining the AED network and providing training). Mr Verlaan is chairman of the association and is therefore not only the face of the association, but also the driving force behind many activities. In addition to his contributions to EHBO Huijbergen, he has also been committed to rowing for a long time and intensively. For example, he was a board member of Breda Rowing Club for six years and was a competition commissioner. Since 1990 he has been a volunteer at the Royal Dutch Rowing Federation (KNRB). He is national camp judge and head of the jury. From 1993 to 1999 he was also competition commissioner at the Southern Rowing Federation. He has also been a member of the Huijbergen neighborhood watch team since 2014 and will be a volunteer at the Royal Air Force Historical Flight Foundation from 2022.

On behalf of the Woensdrechtse Bode, congratulations on this Royal Award!
