A reconstruction of the wellness murder from the beginning of this year is being held in Waregem today. On January 3, Stephanie Demeyere (43) was stabbed to death in her villa on the corner of Zultseweg and Staf Stientjeslaan in Waregem by her husband Mathias D. (44). The facts came to light because the fire brigade received a call for the car that was on fire in the garage. Clearly a murder of passion, but the question remains after three months how it came to this and what exactly happened that day.

All preparations for the reconstruction were already made on Tuesday afternoon. A patrol from the Mira police zone cordoned off Staf Stientjeslaan. In the meantime, fences have been brought in to protect the site, so that the reconstruction can take place in complete discretion. (Read more below the photo)

On January 3, a heated argument took place in the couple’s home. The couple’s three sons were at home at the time. At some point, Mathias D. stabbed the mother of his three children with several stab wounds.

The victim probably tried to escape and the perpetrator therefore set fire to the car, which was in the double garage. The emergency services arrived on scene and were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the house.

At that moment the seriously injured victim was found. She was resuscitated outside, but all help was of no use. The perpetrator was apprehended and has been in custody since then. (Read more below the photo)

The reconstruction must resolve a number of questions that are still unclear. Outsiders were given an image of an enterprising couple who lived in a certain luxury. Stephanie Demeyere was the manager of Steam Wellness, a wellness center located at the same address. She used to be a police officer at the Mira police zone, where she had resigned for some time. Mathias D. was the manager of MD Elektro. They also owned a country residence and a boat in Tenerife and had three children. Stephanie was also the mother of a 19-year-old son from a previous marriage. (Read more below the photo)

Apparently the couple was still struggling with financial and relationship problems. There was talk of an open relationship and even drug use, elements that could have been the reason for the tragedy of January 3. (Read more below the photo)

The reconstruction takes place today. The investigation into the file is not conducted by the criminal investigation department of the Mira police zone, as the victim is an ex-employee of the police zone, but was transferred to the federal judicial police (FGP). The couple’s three sons were taken care of by the victim’s ex.
