In Minority Report Tom Cruise plays a police officer who is predicted to commit murder himself.
In the year 2054, there will be no more murders in Washington. The police employ future forecasters who predict murders. A special police unit catches the suspects before they can commit their crime.
Minority Report
John Anderton (Tom Cruise) is a member of such a unit. He does his job without being concerned with the ethical dilemmas that come with arresting (still) innocent people. Until he faces a prophecy that identifies himself as a future murderer. Anderton does not believe the prediction, but he now has his colleagues behind him.
Between the acts he must try to prevent the prediction from coming true. Steven Spielberg makes a film with Minority Report a short story by science fiction writer Philip K. Dick.
Steven Spielberg
For Minority Report Steven Spielberg worked with many engineers and scientists to discuss the future with them. Because what will the world look like in 2054?
What is particularly striking is that the characters in the film use touchscreens extensively, that they swipe from one screen to the other and that they can zoom in and out with their fingers. We have been using these techniques for years now, but in 2002 it was still ultra-modern.
